What is in a Shaving Set?

A shaving set should contain shaving oil, shaving soap, a high quality shaving brush, a razor and after shave. Shaving cream can be a substitute for shaving soap, but it is important that the shaving cream be of high quality. A supermarket aerosol can just won’t cut it for the premium experience. The shaving oil prepares the face for the shaving experience. It also helps protect the face as the first layer of lubricant and hair softening agents.Unscented is best. The shaving soap provides the lather, another lubricant and more protection from nicks and cuts and razor burn. It needs to be lathered up and placed on top of the shaving oil. The brush should be made of badger hair. Silver tip badger hair is the best. The after shave is used when the shaving is done. It should provide a bracing shock of freshness that will tighten the face.

What About the Razor?

The razor is the most important part of the shave set. Skimp elsewhere if you must, but never skimp on the razor. A straight edge razor will provide the closest shave and the manliest experience. Safety razors may also be used, but they should fit the grip of the man who is going to use them. The only time one should use a disposable razor is only when the situation is dire. If it means the difference between making a big sale and not, then one must do what one must, but it isn’t recommended to submit the man’s face and the environment to such torture.
